Floor Cloths
Each floor cloth is a unique work of art created especially for your home. Purchasing a floor cloth is a process that begins with a discussion.
What is a Floor Cloth?
A floor cloth, also called a floorcloth or floor mat, is a painted piece of canvas used as a decorative floor covering. Floor cloths are a great alternative to area rugs to protect wood or tired floors and to add interest to your home’s décor. Floor cloths clean easily and are very resilient to wear and use. These handmade pieces of floor art are unique and beautiful floor coverings for your home’s interior design.
Jeanette Staley’s floor cloths are created with heavy canvas, high quality, heavy body acrylic paints and several layers of clear protectant. The floor cover’s edges are folded over a few inches and secured with gel medium to create a heavier edge that lies flat and is less likely to catch when walked over. Both top and bottom have been primed to offer some protection from spills that may reach underneath the floor cloth.
As an alternative to a painted floor or vintage vinyl rug, consider ordering a custom designed, hand-painted, Vermont-made floorcloth or attending a floorcloth workshop to learn how to make your own hand-painted rug.

How to Order
Choosing Design Elements and Colors
Design is limited only by imagination! Floor cloth design can include borders, no borders, geometric, floral, birds, favorite furry companions. You can send photos, paint chips, fabric samples and lists to help me design your floor cloth. The more information I have the easier it is for me to design your unique floor cloth.
All floor cloth colors are hand mixed acrylics and vary with each painting. Expect variation, but mailing fabric swatches, wallpaper samples and paint chips is encouraged. Through conversation via email or phone, and photos, we can create a beautiful design for your home.
There is never too much information when designing your floor cloth, so please share as much information as you can. You can expect an average of 3 emails to determine the design of your custom floor covering.
Each piece is unique, so I am unable to offer Refunds or Exchanges.
Step 1 - Choose an existing design or determine your own design elements
Step 2 - Determine the size that you need by measuring your floor/wall area.
Step 3 - Email me with the specifications you have determined above, and I will get back to you with a price and timing for delivery.

Choose from these floor cloths or pick elements and colors from your favorites to design your own.
Consider these questions: Border or no border? Geometric pattern or more organic? Lots of color or something more reserved? It’s up to your personal preference and taste. Floor cloths can be designed to enhance any architectural style from modern to farmhouse.
Pet Placemats
Pet Placemats are a beautiful and inspiring way to honor our different species companions and familiars.
Inspired by the environment that we share with our pets and people, these uniquely painted mats are informed by care for the planet. Monarch butterflies, fireflies, honey bees and Luna moths remind us of the importance of addressing climate changes that affect these insects individually and ultimately agriculture and food chain supply for all of us.
All placemats are painted, as with floor cloths, using heavy duty canvas, layers of primer and acrylic paint and layers of polycrylic protectant. Each is a different size. Best use for food dishes, water can damage the underside of the mat.
After Your Purchase
Care of Your Floor Cloth
Your floor cloth will last many years if cared for using some simple suggestions. I have a floor cloth on a heavily traveled floor; despite years of chasing cats, dogs, and children, it is still in good shape.
Before placing your floor cloth, vacuum and damp-mop the area. Any little bit of gravel or grime will cause a bump in the cloth. Keep it relatively well-vacuumed as just like a wood floor, sand and abrasives can sometimes cause serious scratching. I also suggest using a non-skid pad beneath the floor cloth to protect the floor beneath the canvas.
To clean your floorcloth, occasionally wipe it down with a sponge and water, and mild detergent if necessary. Be sure the cleanser is non-abrasive and completely cleared. You can use a plastic or natural bristle scrub brush if you need it. Stuff happens.
After some time, you may need to clean it well and add another coat of acrylic polyurethane. It will go on cloudy but dry clear. If your edges need touching up, use as similar a color as you can find before the polyurethane. I suggest you consider this each anniversary of purchasing your floor cloth.
